...pneumonia? bronchitis? :(

I feel awful. As each day progresses, my body becomes more and more sore with aches. My coughs become wetter, more yellow and painful to my chest. I need to bring myself to purchase an at-home nebulizer/breathing machine. Today was the first time in my life that my body started shivering tremendously along with the fever. I felt cold... so frozen, yet my face and ears were burning.

Doing homework is so difficult... :'(

Why did this had to happen right when tough class assignments start their due dates and quizzes start rolling around???

I hate going to lecture. I am the loudest coughing, sneezing and nose dripping student. Maybe I'll skip those lectures that don't take attendance and only attend labs?

California State hikes tuition by another 12%

By Blake Ellis July 12, 2011: 6:42 PM ET

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- California State University said Tuesday that it will raise tuition at its 23 campuses by another 12% this fall, thanks to a deeper-than-expected $650 million cut in state funding.

The hike is in addition to a 10% tuition increase that the university system approved last November for the upcoming school year.

Taking into account both tuition increases, full-time students will be paying an additional $516 per semester when they return in the fall. For a freshman, that amounts to an extra $4,128 over four years.

Tuition for full-time undergraduates enrolled in the public university will now run $5,472 a year, with fees averaging $950.

10 least affordable colleges

The tuition hikes come as California continues to struggle with its shrinking budget. The $2.1 billion in state funding the university will get in the upcoming school year will be the lowest level of support it's received since the 1998-1999 fiscal year. Making matters worse, CSU now enrolls 72,000 more students than it did in 1998.

"The enormous reduction to our state funding has left us with no other choice if we are to maintain quality and access to the CSU," said CSU Chancellor Charles Reed. "We will focus on serving our current students by offering as many classes and course sections as possible."

Where will the money go?

A third of the revenue from the tuition hike will go toward financial aid, the university said, adding that about 170,000 students will be fully covered by this aid or other grants and therefore won't need to worry about the tuition increase.

It's D-day for state budgets

To address the ongoing budget cuts at the school, the university has already slashed enrollment by about 10,000 students, reduced campus budgets by $281 million and cut the Chancellor's office funding by $10.8 million. The employee count has also been slashed by 4,125 -- or nearly 9%.

And this may not be the end of the university's financial woes. If state revenue forecasts aren't met by mid-year, CSU's funding would be cut by another $100 million -- amounting to a 27% drop from the previous year.

But some argue that the school has other ways of cutting back besides raising tuition. California Governor Edmund Brown wrote a letter to CSU on Tuesday, telling the school it shouldn't pay its administrators such hefty salaries if it's looking to cut corners.

Extreme tuition hikes ahead

"I fear your approach to compensation is setting a pattern for public service that we cannot afford," Brown said, adding that CSU has proposed to boost administrator salaries by more than $100,000. "At a time when the state is closing its courts, laying off public school teachers and shutting senior centers, it is not right to be raising the salaries of leaders who--of necessity--must demand sacrifice from everyone else."

Presidents in the CSU school system currently earn salaries ranging from $223,584 to $350,004, according to the California State Controller's salary database. To top of page

Well. Fuck. That explains WHY NO ONE IS ANSWERING THE PHONES AT THE BURSAR'S OFFICE about why my fucking loans haven't cleared. Are they waiting until August 2nd to see if Washington raises the debt ceiling?? DO I NEED TO GET A JOB AGAIN? FUCK. I am so fucking pissed right now that I can barely keep composure. Don't these bitches KNOW that the AVERAGE AMERICAN like myself doesn't have family to piss money away and just pay for shit out of pocket?! WHAT THE FUCK.

F**k the First Semester

Finally got my grades for the Fall semester. And... needless to say, I am very much disappointed and somewhat depressed. My transfer GPA to SFSU was 3.86 (while my SFSU GPA was 0.0 of course). And now that the first semester at SFSU is over, I... I was embarrassed to mention it, and even went as far as thinking I failed medical school before even applying, but whatever. I need to accept it and move on to fix it. My cumulative GPA dropped down to 3.42 and my SFSU GPA is a 2.70. Yes, that's right. The first time in my life that I have ever been below 3.50. I almost cried. If that remedial math course that I got an 'A' actually counted, I would probably be at least a 3.0.

I guess I should look at the bright side, my cumulative GPA is over 3.0.....

I'm done sobbing. I'm going to move on and make myself try differently. Spring semester, I am only taking 3 courses (12 units). I am going to spread out my hours at work more throughout the week so I actually have some days where I get off at 3PM (giving me 2-3 extra hours to study during the day).

Next year... if I don't get that Resident Assistant's job (my own room as well as free housing and meals), I won't be holding any other job. I will be 100% on loans whether I like it or not. I can't afford to have another semester with crap grades again. Especially since I noticed I can't pull late nights like I used to in high school. *sigh* I just can't be superwoman anymore.

In Your Face, SFSU!

I would like to announce that I finally got the last $200 yesterday afternoon and I happily deposited all of that cash into my checking account. I just paid the $1,400 moments ago and it's so relieving to be able to pay it off.

I have a place to live, yay me!

Finances...

I'm not as stressed out as I used to be. I think the idea of not being able to afford anything has settled in and my "eh, whatever" morale has finally come. I've been trying all day to e-sign what was left of the loans, but I guess their servers are still down.

I also keep writing down how much a year of college will cost and guess what, I keep losing the paper! So I figure I can just post it here and not worry about if I threw it away or not.

San Francisco State Univ.'s Cost of Attendance is $22,158/year or $11,079/semester.

Break down (per semester):

Registration Fees ...$2,034
Books ......................$867
Housing+Meals ......$5,985
Personal Expenses $1,557
Transportation Ex...$636
Total........................$11,079

But what they don't stress to everyone is that the COA is an estimate and not every student will spend the same amount in transportation and personal expenses. I thought it was sad because instead, they stress you out (or least I was) on having enough to cover fees. You have no idea how many e-mails and letters I've gotten in
BOLD RED CAPS saying my admission will be revoked if fees aren't covered.

Another stress was the amount of loans I almost took out. If I hadn't realized that the COA was an estimate, I would have probably taken out an extra $2,503 in loans, which excludes the borrowing fees and the accruing monthly interest.

Available moolah: $19,655/year or $9,828/semester

Break down (per semester):

US Grant/Scholarship...............................$2,675
SFSU Scholarship.....................................$1,677
US Academic Competitiveness Award....... $350
Financial Need Grant................................ $776
Work Study............................................ $2,000

Perkins Loan (interest after grad.)......... $600
Subsidized Loan
(interest paid by gov't while in school)... $1,750

Total Aid .....................................................$9,828

So I figured I should add up all the important things (registration fees, books, housing) and subtract it from the available moolah.

$9,828-$8,886= $941
$941/2 items (personal & transportation) = $470.50
$470/4 months in Fall semester ~ $117

So $117 is how much I would have for each. I thought about this and I'm really thinking I wouldn't be using the bus much. Not $100 worth anyway. I was thinking to cut it down it $50 and give myself $150 for personal expenses (pads, FOOD, etc.). Well, what do you think? The financial aid office said I could take out the other loans I was granted at any time. The ones I declined are tricky and I really don't have the means to pay for the interest on those.

Moments like these are when I wish I had loaded parents. lol, My journey to weight loss begins!

College: What I REALLY Want

Alright, so I have never asked or said what I wanted (in terms of luxury living) for my dorm. I've been pondering light storms on how I could keep my tea regime in the dorm room. And then it struck me. An electric kettle. I thought of it while in the bathroom washing my hands, funny, I know. I hoped and prayed that such a thing existed. And apparently it does, especially in Europe! America was just slow to catch up (go figure).

I found one on Amazan.com for under $20. It's cheap and gets the job done and I love the idea of it because it boils water, meaning it's versatile and I'll be able to make other things like ramen and oatmeal!

Product Description
Housed in a smooth, modern-looking design, this 1000-watt electric kettle rapidly boils up to 1 quart of water for coffee, tea, instant soups, and more. The unit features a detachable cord and a nonspill spout for graceful serving, plus a generous handle with a secure grip. Its immersed heating element provides a rapid and quiet heating process, making it ideal for the office, home, or college dorm. Dual water-level indicators allow for convenient filling, and the unit's easy-open lid is designed with a security lock to prevent spilling. And there's no need to worry about leaving it on, the kettle automatically shuts off when the water boils, and its boil-dry protection keeps the unit from boiling when there's no water left

It must be a great product because it has 400 customer reviews and it still maintains 4/5 stars. I really, really want this! Ahhhhhhh! Going away gift, anyone???? :(

Classes!

Job hunting has been negative... I doubt I'll get a job, considering that I have an internship for two weeks at the end of July.

So I was looking at my classes and was confirming the schedule or whatever. So it looks like this:

Mondays & Wednesdays: Political Science 10-11a; English 1-3p
Tuesdays & Thursdays: Philosophy 9-11a; Math 12-2p
Fridays: Political Science 11a-12p; English 1-3p

I suppose it looks good? On Monday mornings, classes don't start until 10am, which is great for weekend recovery right?. I always have a break at 12pm...for an hour! And no classes after 3pm. Yesssss.

No luck on finding a roommate, though. I have until July 2nd to submit a preferred roommate. I don't want some random drunktard! =(
